Telling clients when the gate is closed

Longer note · updated October 2026

Clients rarely mind a slower week if they hear about it early. Silence is what causes trouble.

Tell them before the week starts

A short message on Sunday or Monday: "This week I'm only able to reply on Thursday evening. Your next delivery is still on track for the 20th."

Be specific

Give a day or a date, not "soon". It lets clients plan around you.

Protect what's promised

If a closed week includes a deadline, either deliver early or ask to move it now, not on the day.

Use an auto-reply

For email, a short auto-reply with your next reply day saves repeating yourself.
